The POST Certified Pistol Red Dot Sight Instructor Course is an intensive 20-hour program designed to prepare law enforcement firearms instructors to safely and effectively implement, teach, and sustain pistol-mounted red dot sight (RDS) programs within their agencies. Through classroom instruction, practical exercises, live-fire training, and instructor teach-backs, students will develop the instructional, tactical, and technical competencies necessary to teach officers the proper use of duty pistols equipped with red dot sights.

Course topics include red dot sight selection, installation, zeroing, maintenance, optic failure procedures, low-light applications, one-handed manipulations, vehicle and ballistic shield considerations, target discrimination, diagnostic coaching, adult learning concepts, and current California use-of-force laws including Penal Code 835, AB 392, and SB 230. Students must successfully complete instructor evaluations, live-fire qualification, and practical teaching exercises to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to deliver safe, effective, and POST-compliant red dot sight training.
